The Japanese Cell Phone market is struggling in Japan, but it has not been like this forever. Japan used to set standards for the world when it came to technology, including setting the 2G standard back in the 90’s. Now, the Japanese are setting their eye on development of software rather than hardware due to the growing popularity and success of the iPhone and its App Store. Japan’s cell phone owning community has 100 million 3G enabled phones in its market, much more than the cell phone community in America has, but a large percentage of those phones owned by the Japanese are Japanese manufactured phones. Japanese manufacturers hold a less than 10% market share in the worlds cell phone market, and is considering beginning to cooperate and do business with foreign talent and organizations.
